Who is Eligible
Proposals may be submitted by any nonprofit research institution in the state of California, or any California non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with the capacity to conduct research and administer grant funds. The principal investigator for Innovative, Developmental, Exploratory Awards (IDEAs) and Community Collaborative Research Awards must be an individual who qualifies for that status under the proposing institution's policies. The principal investigator is expected to supervise or conduct the proposed project personally and directly. For multi-institution proposals, there must be a collaborating investigator with principal investigator status at the institution(s) that is partnering with the applicant institution.
For Postdoctoral Fellowship Awards in Basic Biomedical Science, the applicant must have postdoctoral fellow status at a California research institution by the award period start date, and must propose a project in the area of Basic Biomedical Science.
For Dissertation Awards in Basic Biomedical Science, the applicant must be enrolled in a doctoral program at an accredited California institution and must have advanced to candidacy for the doctoral degree by the award period start date. The applicant must also propose a project in the area of Basic Biomedical Science.
In addition to the above requirements, former recipients of grants from the California HIV/AIDS Research Program must have all issues with any delinquent scientific progress or fiscal reports resolved before a new application is submitted to CHRP, otherwise the new application will not be forwarded for review.
Resubmissions
Resubmissions are encouraged provided that the content is responsive to target themes of the current Call for Applications (if applicable) and should be responsive to the critiques generated by a previous CHRP review. Applicants with resubmissions are encouraged to contact CHRP program officers to ensure their understanding of the critiques and compliance with the resubmission format.
